WinterBoard is the most favored companion of anybody wanting to
modify colors, shapes, or themes of their iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. It
has just been updated, offering a series of bug fixes for every
compatible version of iOS.
WinterBoard was created by Jay Freeman, better known as Cydia mastermind Saurik. By installing, one change just about every aspect of an iDevice to look a certain way, and Cydia is crammed with various ready-made themes for the home screen, lock screen, Notification Center etc – all of which rely on WinterBoard in order to work.
The improvements for WinterBoard have been trickling in through the last couple of days, and as far as iOS 5 is concerned, the most significant improvement is the "SpringBoard Scroll Lag" is no more, providing SummerBoard Mode is deactivated.
For those running iOS 4 and iOS 5, there have been some issues with the respring button. In order for a selected theme to come into effect, a respring must take place, but it hasn’t been functioning as it should. As per the changelog, users should be able to respring within the WinterBoard app without so much as a hiccup.
The complete changelog for v0.9.3905 reads as follows:
WinterBoard is available on the BigBoss repository, and as always is always free of charge. It works for all devices running iOS.
Of course, you will need to jailbreak your device to install and enjoy its customizing prowess. For jailbreaking the latest iOS 5.1 (tethered), follow the instructions posted here to jailbreak using Redsn0w, or here for Sn0wbreeze. For jailbreaking iPhone 4S and iPad 2, you can simply follow our step by step tutorial posted here to jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 using Absinthe on Windows or Mac. Those of you with an iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad 1, and iPod touches can use Redsn0w or Sn0wbreeze to untether jailbreak on iOS 5.0
