Carrier IQ Found Hidden In iOS 5

In the last few days there was a fuss about Carrier IQ, As chpwn has found the Carrier IQ software hidden in iOS. We all knew that Carrier IQ is used in Blackberry, Android and Symbian handsets. The software secretly logs keystrokes, text messages and other data.

Recently, Trevor Eckhart has exposed a program called IQRD and he has posted a video showing Carrier IQ’s software logging keystrokes from text messages, dial pad and web pages. The test was on his own HTC EVO.

You can see in the video that the App is visible in the app menu and it doesn’t warn you about recording your keystrokes. Not just that, it sends some of this information but up until now we don’t know what it sends or to whom it sends it.
There is some speculations that the software is used to collect user information for wireless networks to sell to third-party companies. This could be the answer to why some users gets spam-like texts for no reason whatsoever. This software is also the foe of your iDevice’s battery life.
Any body with the right knowledge can hijack the software data and gain access to your personal information. According to Eckhart.

How To Turn This Software Off??

Even though the software isn’t visible and can’t be uninstalled. Chpwn has managed to find a way to disable it on iPhone running iOS 5. The app can be disabled by turning off the Device’s Diagnostic and Usage toggle.
Go To Settings > General > About > Diagnostics & Usage, and turn it off.
